How To Use a Moka Pot and Drink Italian Coffee!

The moka pot is anItalian coffee maker for an authentic homemade Italian coffee named (espresso) that you can find, and here I will show you how to use it and how to drink an Italian coffee...

To prepare a good coffee at home with a moka you must have the following advanced tools: the coffee maker, good Italian coffee, a source of water, and of course a cup.

It's recommended to pay close attention to the choice of coffee you make. If you want to save money on the coffee blend, or if you are planing to make a long coffee, you should then buy instant coffee and this is NOT the case.

But then, if you want to make the best choice buy an Italian blend of grounded coffee and even better is to buy coffee beans and grind them by your own.

So lets follow these step-by-step helpful instructions...

1. This type of Italian coffee maker consists of three basic parts, the boiler whose function is to keep the water, the filter were the coffee is held, and the gathering tank in which the coffee comes out.

2. Water is very important for the success of a good Italian coffee. Water must be pure to ensure the natural flavor of the taste. It's recommend to use natural mineral, or in absence of that use simple tap water.

3. Typically the coffee is served in a small Italian coffee cup. This includes functionality and aesthetics and if preheated it eliminates the loss of heat.

4. Pour the water in the boiler until it reached a level slightly under the valve.

5. Place the filter inside the boiler with a delicate movement.

6. Fill the filter with coffee and properly settle it with the edge of a spoon.

7. Do NOT ever press the coffee with the spoon, but just place it to form a little heap. This will allow to get the right pressing of the coffee and the best fitting of the filter after tightening the upper tank.

8. Tighten well the moka pot to prevent leakage of steam and water throughout boiling. Then turn on the heat and place the gas knob at minimum. This allows the water to come to a boil slow and uniform through the coffee.

9. Wait until the coffee comes out, producing the typical foam, and that classic final gurgle with its incomparable aroma. Then turn off the gas immediately to avoid that unpleasant sensation of burnt.

10. Turn well the coffee in the pot before you drink it in order to homogenize the most dense coffee which comes out first, than the more lighter that comes out at the end of the process. If this is NOT very important in an Italian coffee maker for one, is crucial for moka pots with greater capacity.

11. Pour the coffee in the cup previously prepared. Better if the cup is heated up.

Is all this enough?

The art of drinking an Italian coffee...

12. Now it's time to taste the coffee wonderfully prepared, but do it in short sips.
The bitter character assumed by the coffee is typical of this preparation method. So to fully taste Italian coffee it's strongly advised NOT to use sugar. However, I well know that it's hard to drink due to the natural bitter taste of the coffee produced by the coffee maker. So who may want, can add sugar of course to their own taste.

Advanced use of sugar for a rich froth!

13. This method allows to make a rich froth over the coffee. First prepare a glass with plenty of sugar, let say about 1/4 full.

14. Take the first drops of coffee from the moka pot and pour them in the sugar. Pour in only the first drops, which are the most dense.

15. Pour the first drops in the sugar and ensure there's prevalence of sugar. Coffee plays the smallest part now.

16. Turn vigorously the mixture with the help of a spoon until you get a creamy, saturated and light brown color sugar sauce. The mixture should have a good consistency.

17. I strongly recommend to don't smoke a cigarette after taken coffee as many Italians do. ATTENTION to side effects! This smoking rite is "harmful to health".

About cleaning the moka pot...

18. These Italian coffee makers must be only rinsed with water and simply put out to dry. Never wash with soap.

How to store Italian coffee...

19. Last but NOT least thing is to ensure coffee lasting aroma, so it should be stored in refrigerator after a proper sealing.

At breakfast or after a big meal many Italians drink moka espresso at home. And the main reason why we do so is to "wake-up".

Best Italian coffee blends...

If you are going to make your own Italian coffee at home with a stove top moka pot these are the brands that you must look for. Every Italian knows about them and they are most extensively used at home which I recommend you.
